At Lindsey Adventures, we’re always keeping an eye on changes that affect travelers like you—especially those little surprises that can turn a smooth journey into a bumpy experience. And here’s one from Turkey that caught our attention!
What’s New in Turkey?
The Turkish Directorate General of Civil Aviation has introduced a new rule that fines airline passengers who:
Unbuckle their seatbelt while the plane is still taxiing
Stand up before the aircraft comes to a complete stop
Open overhead bins before the plane reaches the gate
Rush into the aisle before it’s their row’s turn to exit
💺 The fine? Turkish media reports it could be around $67 per violation.
Why the Change?
The Turkish government says the goal is simple: make flying safer and more respectful. Too many passengers have been jumping up the moment the wheels touch the ground, and it’s caused a rise in injuries, delays, and tension.
Cabin crews in Turkey are now required to report violators, and officials hope it will reduce disruptive behavior during that critical last part of the flight.
Could This Come to the U.S.?
Let’s be honest: if you’ve flown in the U.S. lately, you’ve probably seen the same kind of behavior. People standing up while the plane is still moving, pulling bags out from overhead before it’s safe, or crowding the aisle before the rows ahead of them have even moved.
Could we see similar fines in the U.S. someday? It’s not out of the question. Airlines and the FAA are increasingly focused on passenger conduct, and this move by Turkey could inspire other countries to follow suit.
Why It Matters to You
If you're one of our many travelers, you're likely someone who values safety, structure, and treating fellow passengers with kindness. This new regulation serves as a reminder that good manners and good sense go a long way in the skies.
At Lindsey Adventures, we’ll keep you posted on how these kinds of international policies could affect your future travel. For now, buckle up—and maybe give a gentle side-eye to the folks who don't. 😄
