Travel season is heating up, and if you’re planning a spring break or summer getaway, a little preparation goes a long way. These are my favorite smart travel tips to help you pack efficiently, avoid common travel headaches, and start your trip feeling relaxed instead of rushed.
Before You Go
Book your flights and hotels as early as possible—prices are rising, and the best options go quickly. If you’ll need a rental car, reserve it early as well to get the best selection and pricing.
If you’re flying, try to choose a morning departure. Early flights tend to have fewer delays, and mid-morning departures often help you avoid the largest crowds.
Before your trip:
· Double-check your travel documents (passport or REAL ID)
· Download your airline’s app
· Review your flight details and boarding passes
Gadget Girl Tip: I use a digital boarding pass, but I still print one at the airport just in case. Technology is great—until it isn’t!
Pack Smarter
Your carry-on can save your trip if your checked bag is delayed.
Make sure you pack:
· A change of clothes
· Any medications you need
· Phone charger or portable battery
· Snacks (because every traveler needs snacks!)
Also, think carefully about what you pack in your checked bag. Leave some room for souvenirs and skip the extra “just in case” items—you’ll thank yourself later when your suitcase isn’t overweight.
Airport Strategies
Travel is busy right now, so give yourself extra time at the airport. Plan to arrive at least 2–3 hours early to get through security and check in without stress.
Helpful tips:
· Check your airport’s website for updated security wait times
· Be aware that airports have peak travel windows
· Monday mornings are usually the busiest (business travelers)
· Mid-morning flights during the week tend to be quieter
If you do end up traveling during a busy time, bring patience—and yes, more snacks.
Remember: The goal is to focus on the adventure ahead, not the stress of getting there.
