✈️ 11 Items You Can Bring Through TSA Full-Sized – But With One Big Warning

If you’ve flown in the last 20 years, you probably know the TSA’s strict 3-1-1 rule by heart: all liquids, aerosols, gels, creams, and pastes must be under 3.4 ounces and fit inside a quart-sized bag.
But here’s what’s changing: at a growing number of airports across the U.S. and Europe, new high-tech CT scanners are being installed at security checkpoints. These allow a more detailed view of your bag’s contents — and in turn, more freedom for travelers.
That means you can now bring these 11 previously restricted items through security — in full-size containers — at select airports with the new scanners:
🧴 11 Full-Size Items Now Allowed at SOME Airports with New CT Technology:
Shampoo & Conditioner
Full-size Toothpaste
Lotion or Moisturizer
Facial Cleanser or Makeup Remover
Hair Gel or Pomade
Liquid Foundation
Sunscreen
Aerosol Hairspray
Contact Lens Solution
Body Spray or Deodorant
Hand Sanitizer or Disinfectant Spray
🛑 BUT — Here's the Big Catch:
Not all airports have these new machines. So if you pack full-size liquids and you're flying through an airport that doesn't have the updated scanners, you could still be forced to toss them — or check your bag at the last minute.
Some airports with the new tech include:
Atlanta (ATL)
Chicago O’Hare (ORD)
New York JFK (some terminals)
Phoenix (PHX)
Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS)
London Heathrow (LHR, select terminals)
More airports are adding the scanners this year and into 2026, but adoption is still in progress.
🎒 Our Advice?
If you're flying through only airports with the new CT scanners, feel free to pack your full-size favorites. But if your travel plans include smaller or older terminals, stick to the 3-1-1 rule for now — just to be safe.
